about the match

SoLD Homeland match: 10-30 DM, Cathedral.
SoLD - Order (to start in Balance):
300 levels.
HF - Balance (to start in Chaos):
275 levels.

We started this "defence" on the offensive, against opponents who were almost a full 30 down to begin with. We went straight for centre pool and waited there for HF to appear on the steps. They came out briefly, but there were no casualties on either side caused by the long range fighting of the first minute. HF soon retreated back to their homepool. After taking control of the whole arena other than Chaos' homepool, we went up to the steps and waited for the HF attack on our castle. This was quite a wait, as HF were not willing to make a complete assault on us, and we did not want to walk into any traps in a failed attempt at removing them from the section of our castle that they were camped in.

On numerous occasions, the front door to Chaos was opened and a few HF were found there firing out, and facing a volley of ManaStorm in response. Eventually this caused the first deaths of the match. One of the HF lower levels was wiped out by MaD, as was their warlord SkidRow. This was due to all three SoLD arcs attacking at the same split second. After this point, with the advantage massively in our favour, HF played extremely defensive. For the remainder of the first match, there was very little action at all.

The second match began with both teams starting in the same places, and again we went straight to centre pool. HF were again at the steps, but this time they moved across to the Order shrine, to give them the extra options they needed to leave that area without us knowing for certain where they would appear, in advance. For almost all of this match, SoLD attempted to score more kills in a similar fashion to the first two - by pot-shots down the back entrance of Order shrine and also down the steps at the front way. The clock was down to less than 10.00 before anything major happened - and it had therefore been around 70 minutes between kills in this match. This time we took the second of the smaller HF characters, as well as one of their fighters.

The match soon went into its 3rd and final game. We had removed 4 of the HFs from our castle and only 6 remained to face the 10 SoLD defenders. HF stayed in their homepool in Chaos, and we came out to attack them right away. At this point splitting the team into two groups of five to launch a final assault seemed a viable option. The suggestion was made to send three arcs down to the Chaos shrine pillar to fire off a few shots at anyone in the homepool, whilst the rest kept most of HF occupied at the front entrance. This worked well as whilst 5 of the HFs fought up at the top, Veng was easy to pick off as the only person who had to pop down to that pool for ley. The remaining 5 HFs came down to where the action was taking place, and met 5 SoLDs there.

A couple of the arcs had to head back to the only secure source of ley right back at the centre pool, but Dream stayed with Tel and ZipLiv, where some walling enabled us to split the 5 HFs and make things a little easier for the ley-less Dream and 2 Clerics. Phoenix and Death were separated from the rest just into the corridor, near to the shrine pillar. Dream bombed Phoe's feet to leave him in trouble. Pretty soon after the 5 other SoLDs came through the front entrance and the arcs getting ley from centre pool got back. The last few HFs were totally trapped and were quickly picked off one-by-one, separated by walls to prevent them getting together to launch any response. SonOfHealer and Amon scoring the kills this time around. Death was the last to fall, hidden inside walls for the last few moments until they fell and he faced 10 SoLD defenders throwing everything they had at him. He stood no chance and died the moment he appeared.

All of the HF invaders have been successfully removed from the castle, with no loss of life to the SoLD defenders, and our opponents never getting the opportunity to hunt down our Queen. The castle is now secure, for a short period at least.
